Mitch Hardy
President and Chief Executive Officer
Over the past thirty years, Mr. Hardy has held senior executive-level financial positions with a number of high technology manufacturing firms, providing leadership in rapidly growing businesses, established firms, and turn-around situations. He has guided strategic planning and business development efforts for companies ranging in size from start-ups to NYSE-listed firms and is an expert in operational reporting for complex enterprises.
During the 1990s, Mr. Hardy owned and operated Willowdale Specialty Products, a specialty producer and marketer to the upscale hospitality industry.
Mr. Hardy is a graduate of Bentley College.
Mitch Hardy is also the co-author of Data Driven Investing-Professional Edition.
R. Stephen Hardy
Principal
Mr. Hardy is the founder of Zephyr Associates Inc.,
which licenses the StyleAdvisor software program to over 9000
major institutional investor clients such as pension plan
sponsors, money managers and consultants. StyleAdvisor was the
first commercially available software program designed to
utilize Bill Sharpe’s unique returns-based style analysis. The
program measures manager style and creates customized style
benchmarks (normal portfolios) using only manager and index
returns. Mr. Hardy sold his interest in Zephyr Associates in
2007.
Prior to forming Zephyr Associates in 1994, Mr. Hardy was a
principal in the firm Balch, Hardy, Scheinman & Winston, Inc., a
money management firm, which he founded in 1973. During its
twenty-one year history, the firm pioneered the use of options
and developed a number of quantitative stock and option
strategies for large tax-exempt funds.
Prior to co-founding BHSW, Mr. Hardy was a Vice President of
Dean Witter & Company.
He received his degree in Business Administration from Whittier
College in 1968.
Bill Matson
Portfolio Manager
Mr. Matson's career in finance spans over 30 years, including stints as an accountant, corporate loan officer, retail stockbroker, and executive for several start-up companies. Bill has worked at General Electric, Arthur Andersen & Co., Chemical Bank, Dean Witter, and Merrill Lynch.
In addition, he has founded or co-founded a variety of companies. One of these companies, Virtual Company Visits, pioneered (in 1993) the development of equity research CD-ROM's featuring video clips of management interviews, product demonstrations, and facilities tours. Data Driven Publishing, LLC will be building upon the work of Virtual Company Visits in developing its VideoFinancials™ product.
Mr. Matson is a Certified Public Accountant and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. He earned his MBA from Harvard Business School, in addition to a B.S. in Accounting from Babson College.
He is also the co-author of Data Driven Investing-Professional Edition.
Susan W. Bailey
Vice President, Finance and Compliance
Susan’s 22 years of experience in finance, accounting, and information systems provides Cognition with a strong infrastructure of financial and management control.
She earned her MBA from MIT’s Sloan School of Management (1987) after studying at the London School of Economics and earning her BS in Economics from Middlebury College.
James Bailey
Director of Marketing and Client Services
Jim brings to Cognition Capital many years of customer support and client relationship experience.
Prior to Cognition he spent nine years in the software industry in quality assurance, training, and technical support.
In the 1990’s he was a residential loan officer for a large regional bank.
He is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts, Amherst 1987.
Doreen Glowik
Administrative Assistant
Doreen has a keen ability to organize, file and put her hand on any document needed within seconds. This combined with her multitasking ability makes her an important part of the organization. Her background is in real estate taxation at the municipal level. |
